Prices in US supermarkets continue to rise: what has become more expensive the most

Ground beef in the United States has risen in price by about 14% over the year and now costs on average more than $15 per kilogram – and some premium steaks are sold for almost $22 per kilo, reports RTVI.US correspondent Diana Lesnicaya. Against this backdrop, Americans are increasingly forced to turn to more affordable alternatives, such as chicken, which is not rising in price as quickly.

Coffee lovers are also feeling the rise in prices. Due to rising logistics and raw material costs, prices for some brands have increased by several dollars compared to winter. Individual packages are already selling for $12-15 and more.

At the same time, egg prices remain relatively stable. If during the outbreak of bird flu a dozen often cost more than $6-7, now it can be found for $2-3, unless we are talking about organic products.

Fresh vegetables and fruits have risen in price by more than 10% over the year, this was confirmed by the US Department of Agriculture. Against this background, a $21 package of California cherries no longer seems unusual.

The Big Mac index also reflects the rise in prices. The average cost of a burger in the United States has risen from about $5.80 to more than $6 in a year.

The rise in prices is due to the war in Iran and trade tariffs by the current administration. As experts note, even if gasoline at American gas stations begins to become cheaper, this does not mean that prices in supermarkets will quickly return to their previous levels. They do not expect significant relief for consumer wallets in the near future.
