Oscar-winning British actress Helen Mirren expressed support for her colleague and compatriot Tom Hardy amid the media scandal surrounding the Paramount+ series Gangsterland (MobLand). Earlier it was reported that the actor was allegedly suspended from participating in the new season due to problematic behavior on the set.

In the first two seasons of the series about London criminal gangs, Hardy played the role of “fixer” for a pair of bandits played by Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. Guy Ritchie became the director of several episodes and one of the executive producers of the project.

As Variety notes, the first season of Gangsterland became one of the most successful programs on the American streaming service Paramount+ in 2025, while the second was filmed recently and has not yet been released.

The American publication The Hollywood Reporter (THR) earlier in May claimed, citing sources, that Hardy’s participation in the third season, which will begin filming this year, was in question due to his lateness to filming, as well as disputes with producers about the script and the scale of his role. Tabloids like Page Six and the Daily Mail reported that Hardy had allegedly been fired.

Despite rumors that Mirren was also unhappy with Hardy’s behavior, the actress posted a photo of her colleague on Instagram Thursday with words of support.

“Love you – now and always,” Mirren captioned the photo of Hardy.

Variety, in a publication on the same day, noted, citing a source close to the producers of “Gangsterland,” that the issue of Hardy’s participation in the third season was being decided “from a creative point of view.”

“Tom was not fired, and the door to the third season is not closed,” the publication’s interlocutor emphasized, adding that Richie, known for his past collaboration with the actor, is also on Hardy’s side.

Hardy, 48, is best known for his roles in Mad Max: Fury Road, Inception and The Revenant, for which he was nominated for an Oscar in 2015. Mirren received this award in 2007 for her role as Elizabeth II in the film The Queen. An actress with Russian roots (her name at birth was Elena Mironova) has the title of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, which is considered equivalent to knighthood.
