The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of nearly 200,000 JKMax electric blankets and heating pads sold on Amazon due to fire and burn risks. Customers have previously reported that the products “smoke, melt or catch fire” when used. More than 500 similar complaints have been recorded – in some cases, faulty electrical devices have led to burns.
As specified in the regulator's statement, blankets and heating pads have been sold on Amazon since September 2022. All recalled products are equipped with a removable remote control that allows you to adjust the heating temperature.
During its entire sales period, the Chinese company JKMAX received 577 reports of cases of dangerous overheating, and a total of 53 people were injured.
According to the commission, the problem is due to a malfunction of the internal heating elements.
“Internal heating elements in blankets and heating pads can become extremely hot, creating a risk of fire and burns,” the report states.
The recall includes models JKMAX-002, JKMAX-7284B, JKMAX-6284B, JKMAX-10090B and JKMAX-8490B – a total of about 195,000 units of product. The numbers are located on the back of the remote control and also on the white label of the packaging next to the JKMAX brand name.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled blankets and heating pads and contact JKMAX for a full refund.
