Соpypaste (english copy & paste – copy and paste).
What is copypaste? This is one of the methods of filling the site, which consists in copying and transferring content: photos, images, text, etc., from one resource to another. Such content is not unique, and in some cases may infringe copyright.
The history of the appearance of the term
The history of the term “copypaste” dates back to the 17th century. At that time, the famous Swiss literary critic Johann Jacob Bodme used the expression “scissors and a pot of glue”, implying that his contemporaries-writers use parts of other people’s works in their own. In a slightly modified form, the term took root among newspapermen even before the advent of the Internet, in particular, in the Soviet Union, journalists used the ironic expression “Reclet method”, it meant the same thing – “cut and glue”.
Using
Although the term “copypaste” has a pronounced negative connotation, this method, along with copywriting and rewriting, is one of the methods of filling resources with content. The use of copy paste is not prohibited by law. However, search engines cannot always distinguish the original source from a copy-paste. That is why most producers of unique content try to protect themselves from copypasting, either by allowing content to be reproduced only partially, or by prohibiting copypasting altogether. In the event that these requirements were not met, as well as if a link to the original source was not placed under the copypaste, the content producers can claim a violation of their copyrights and defend them accordingly.
How to detect copypaste
It is customary to check texts that were ordered as rewrites or copyrights for the presence of copypaste, and, in addition, it is necessary to monitor whether unique content from your site has not been used on other resources. The latter is especially relevant for young, developing sites that are filled with unique author’s content and fight for rankings in search engines. Since the uniqueness of the content is the most important factor in the ranking of sites by search engines.
Today, there are at least a dozen services that allow you to check text content for uniqueness. They work like this: the address of the page that requires verification is indicated in the service, or the text is inserted. The service will compare the content offered to it with what is already on the network and will show the degree of its uniqueness, sources and the percentage of coincidence.
The most popular programs for checking text for uniqueness are:
- Advego Plagiatus;
- Miratools;
- Copyscape;
- Anti-plagiarism.
Whether they copy the unique context of your site can be checked through search engines.
How to protect yourself from copypaste
It is impossible to completely protect your content from copypaste. However, there are ways to significantly minimize the activity of copypasters on your site.
It’s easiest to protect photos and other images, as well as videos. Applying a watermark will allow you to indicate the authorship on which resource this content was not subsequently reproduced. Of course, in many cases watermarks can be cropped or covered, but this usually happens infrequently.
You can also protect the content by setting copy protection.
The most effective way to protect yourself is to contact someone who is using your content in violation of copyright. You need to contact them and gently but convincingly demand to remove your content or put a link to the source.
