On the territory of the National Mall in the center of Washington, a large-scale inscription 8647 was discovered left on the lawn. Previously, similar figures, which are associated with opposition to US President Donald Trump and considered a threat to his life, became the basis for a criminal case against former FBI head James Comey.
As Reuters reports with reference to the US Department of the Interior (DOI), which oversees the country's parks and national monuments, the new incident with the numbers will be investigated.
How exactly the large inscription was left in the grass is not yet clear – it was initially noticed by photographers filming the American capital from the Washington Monument ahead of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, as well as Flag Day and Trump's birthday on June 14. The White House, which is located nearby, will host a UFC fight that day, which will be attended by the president and 4,000 other guests.
A DOI spokesman called the incident a “crazy act of vandalism.”
“Ministry [внутренних дел] “We take any threats against the President very seriously, and Park Police will investigate this incident and bring those responsible to justice,” a ministry spokesman said in a statement to Reuters.
The United States Park Police (USPP) added that the cause of the “discoloration” of the grass will be determined based on the results of the analysis of turf samples that were taken.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the number 86 is used in restaurant jargon as a verb to mean refusing to serve customers because they are intoxicated or inappropriate. In English, 86 (eighty-six) rhymes with the verb nix – “remove”, “cancel”. The number 47 corresponds to the serial number of Trump's current presidency.
Last year, the US Department of Justice indicted former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey in connection with a photograph he published showing seashells in the form of combination 8647. Comey, 65, faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. He denies wrongdoing ahead of a trial scheduled for October 2026.

The Trump administration considers 8647 a call for violence against the president, who has been the subject of a number of assassination attempts in recent years. The opposition insists that the figures are a call solely for his removal from office, and not for physical violence. A federal judge, by the way, on the eve of June 14, allowed protesters to hang a flag with numbers near the National Mall, finding that this could not be considered a call for violence, Newsweek notes.
The incident with the appearance of huge numbers on the lawn at the White House was called a manifestation of “Trump derangement syndrome.”
“Anyone who engages in or supports political violence should be subject to the harshest condemnation,” Trump administration spokesman Davis Ingle told Newsweek.
The latest attempt on Trump's life occurred this year at the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner. Then one of the employees of the Secret Service, guarding the top officials of the state, was injured. The detainee, 31-year-old Cole Allen, a programming tutor from California, was charged with attempting to assassinate the president and also faces life imprisonment.
Shortly before this, 36-year-old Sean Steiner was arrested near the head of state’s golf club with a large amount of weapons and ammunition, and in February 2026, 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin was detained at Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago (Florida), who entered there with a can of gasoline and a shotgun.
In 2024, Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, resulting in the death of a spectator at the event and the politician himself being shot in the ear. The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, was killed on the spot.
A couple of months after that, Secret Service agents foiled an assassination attempt on Trump near Mar-a-Lago. Ryan Root, who was pointing the machine gun over the fence, was arrested on the spot and sentenced to life in prison this year.
