Porter County Sheriff's Office in Indiana presented 32-year-old Valparaiso woman charged Serena Dolnix in the murder of her 70-year-old father Gregory Dolnix, WTHR reports. According to investigators, the woman stabbed the man and cut out the heart from his chest.

On July 26, Porter County police received a call from a man claiming to be a family member of Dolnix, who could not reach him. He asked law enforcement officers to check if everything was okay with the relative. At the same time, Serena’s lover called 911, saying that the woman “was covered in blood” and may have “stabbed Gregory” and now “might commit suicide.”

The officer who arrived at the scene met Serena’s lover at the door of the house: he said that she kicked him out of the building. The officer then saw a body lying on the floor through the window. Additional law enforcement forces were called to the scene. When the police entered the house, Serena locked herself in the bedroom. As a result, she was detained without resistance.

Gregory was found lying on his back, his blood was on two chairs and a nearby sofa, and bloody trails led from the body through the kitchen to Serena's room. The man's body was also found with an open wound in his chest that “appeared empty, as if something had been removed,” and a heart lay on his stomach. The medical examiner determined that the preliminary cause of death was “multiple injuries caused by a sharp object” and ruled the death a homicide.

Serena told detectives she lived with her father and “watched TV” all day. She declared a good relationship with Gregory, adding about rare “small quarrels” that after a while both “quickly forget.” When police asked where she got the blade injuries on her hands, she replied that she got them while working in the garden.

Serena was taken to the Porter County Jail where she is being held without bail. For murder, she faces a prison sentence of 45 to 65 years. Her possible motives are unknown at this time.
