The Argentina national team will compete for victory in the final of the FIFA World Cup (2026 World Cup) for the second year in a row. In the semi-final match on Wednesday, July 15, Lionel Messi's side beat England 2-1 thanks to his cross from the wing and Lautaro Martinez's decisive header.
England opened the scoring in the American city of Atlanta (Georgia) in the second half in the 55th minute. The goal was scored by Anthony Gordon.
In the 85th minute, Argentine captain Messi made an assist to Enzo Fernandez, who equalized the score, and in the second compensated minute (90+2), Martinez scored from a pass from the same winner of eight Ballon d'Ors.
The striker who scored the decisive goal came off the bench in the 81st minute of the match, less than 10 minutes before the end of the normal 90-minute time. Nine minutes were added to the second half, as a result of which the Argentines maintained a minimal advantage and reached the final.
The Spanish national team, which the day before beat France with a score of 2:0, will try to prevent Messi from becoming a two-time world champion. The final will take place at the stadium in East Rutherford (New Jersey) on July 19. A day earlier, France and England will compete in the match for third place.
