After Iran, Trump will focus on Ukraine

After the end of the war in Iran, the United States will focus on the Ukrainian conflict. This was stated by the head of the White House, Donald Trump, at the G7 summit during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Trump mentioned conversations that took place on Sunday with the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, Vladimir Zelensky and Vladimir Putin, respectively – as RTVI.US reported, both congratulated the head of the White House on his 80th birthday. The conversation with Putin, in particular, lasted about an hour, and Zelensky is expected to personally meet with Trump as part of the G7 summit.

According to Trump, both Putin and Zelensky are open to dialogue.

“Maybe we can do something about Ukraine. I think both Putin and Zelensky are open to this. Now we're done with Iran, we'll focus on Ukraine,” Trump said.

Resolving the Ukrainian conflict was one of Trump's campaign promises. During the 2024 presidential campaign, he said he could complete it “in 24 hours.”

On his 80th birthday, Trump announced a deal with Iran. Tehran confirmed the agreement, although the parties, apparently, still have points of contention. However, the agreement calls for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, an end to hostilities and the start of 60 days of negotiations on the future of Iran's nuclear program.

The day before, as Axios reports, the document was signed electronically by Trump himself, as well as Vice President J.D. Vance and the head of the Iranian delegation to the negotiations, Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Ghalibaf. The deal will be signed in person on Friday in Switzerland, with Vance representing the United States. However, answering questions from reporters at a press conference, Trump admitted that he would also attend the meeting.

At the same time, the Strait of Hormuz will be completely opened to shipping and the text of the deal will be published, which, according to Trump, is not at all similar to the “terrible Obama document” (meaning the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed in 2015 under the administration of Barack Obama). RTVI.US spoke about how Obama himself spoke about Trump’s deal.
