Actress Anna Faris, known for the Scary Movie parody film franchise, shared in an interview with Dexerto that during the filming of the sixth part, a joke about US First Lady Melania Trump was cut out. According to the actress, the scene was built around the image of her character Cindy Campbell as a “classic MAGA supporter.” (Make America Great Again, movement of US President Donald Trump).
Faris emphasized in the interview that she intentionally made Campbell a caricature. The actress returned to the role more than 20 years after the release of the fourth part of the series.
“I always insisted that Cindy be a typical Trump supporter—like those people you'd see outside Walmart during quarantine, making some crazy fuss,” Faris said.
The actress stressed that she was ready to offend with the joke because she was starring in a film that “truly is the most offensive film ever made.” The humor in the Scary Movie series is often based on taking horror movie clichés to the point of absurdity, as well as ridiculing celebrities and pop cultural phenomena.
“There was a moment when Cindy got really drunk, she was in her pickup truck of course,” and she looked in the rearview mirror and said, “Be the best, Cindy Campbell. Be the best,” Faris retold the joke.
Despite the fact that the scene was ultimately cut from the final version of the film, Faris said that she was happy with the attempt to add this scene to the film.
The phrase “Be Best” refers to Melania Trump’s 2018 anti-cyberbullying campaign of the same name. As noted on the US government's website on cyberbullying, this type of psychological harassment can occur through SMS, text messages and apps, as well as on social networks, forums or video games.
“Cyberbullying involves sending, publishing or distributing negative, harmful, false or offensive content about another person,” the resource clarifies.
However, the campaign has repeatedly become the target of ridicule in the American media and comedians due to the behavior of Trump himself, who regularly published offensive posts on social networks and made corresponding public statements, The Daily Beast recalls. It was on this contradiction, judging by Faris, that the joke in Scary Movie 6 was based. Even during Trump’s first presidential term, his wife became the object of ridicule because of his controversial statements, HuffPost writes.
Let us recall that earlier, because of jokes about his wife, Trump called on ABC to fire TV presenter Jimmy Kimmel. Commenting on the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where the president was scheduled to speak, the comedian said Melania was “beaming like a widow-to-be.” As RTVI.US reported, after this the Federal Communications Commission FCC ordered Walt Disney Co. apply for early license renewal for its ABC television stations.
