The US military has launched a new series of airstrikes against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran. reported US Central Command (CENTCOM). According to him, the attacks were a response to attempts by the IRGC to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and American bases in the Middle East. President USA Donald Trump called the strikes “powerful and large-scale” and threatened Tehran with an even more serious attack if it responded. Iran, in turn, called the US actions “a new series of acts of aggression” and announced retaliatory missile and drone strikes against American targets in the region.

On the Truth Social social network, Trump wrote that the decision to carry out new strikes was made after the “failed attempt by the Iranians to plant naval mines” in the Strait of Hormuz. In addition, according to the American president, Tehran fired eight missiles at an American military base in Jordan.

“If the failed state of Iran retaliates for this justifiable attack, they will be hit again, much more powerful and devastating, but it will not be the largest attack waiting in the wings. When it ends, there will be little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran!” – Trump emphasized.

The new series of attacks is part of a plan that Trump and his senior aides have discussed in recent days, Axios writes. It calls for limited strikes in the Strait of Hormuz to prevent Iran from regaining radar and missile capabilities needed to attack shipping.

In comments to Fox News, Trump said Iran could be “completely wiped off the face of the earth” if the conflict continues to escalate. The US President also rejected the prospect of concluding a new peace agreement with Tehran.

The American strikes also hit the Chabahar and Konarak districts in the province (ostan) of Sistan and Baluchestan, the Iranian state news agency IRNA reported. The General Staff of Iran's Armed Forces described the United States' actions as “a new series of acts of aggression” and promised a response.

According to Al Jazeera, the areas of Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, Konarak, Chabahar, Jask, Lawan, Asalue and Ahwaz were attacked.

The station also reported that a house near the coastal town of Sirik, where a wedding was being held, was hit. According to Al Jazeera, at least four people were killed, including a child, and more than 50 were injured.

The IRGC said after the American strikes that the US attacks would “only tighten” Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz. The Corps also claims that during the American operation, Iranian forces shot down the 50th MQ-9 drone since the start of the conflict. There was no independent confirmation of this information at the time of publication.

Iran, in turn, launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks on American targets in the Middle East. An Al Jazeera correspondent reported that three missiles were intercepted over Daraa province in southern Syria during an attack towards Jordan.

The Associated Press (AP) also reported the launch of Iranian missiles in the direction of Jordan. The IRGC said that one of the targets was a US military facility in Jordan in the Gulf of Aqaba area. The Iranian side called the attack a response to the American strike on Sirik.
