This fall, a new documentary series about US First Lady Melania Trump will be released on the Amazon Prime streaming platform, her senior adviser Mark Beckman said. The project will be a follow-up to Amazon MGM Studios' documentary Melania, released earlier this year.
Speaking with Real America's Voice host Eric Bolling, Beckman noted that the series will offer viewers a “whole new look at the world” of the first lady. He said audiences would get “a little behind-the-scenes look at what happened at the very beginning of the 47th President's administration,” while the film only covered Melania Trump's 20-day run-up to the inauguration of her husband, Donald Trump.
“If you saw the movie Melania, then you may remember that we showed only 20 days in the life of the first lady. We opened a little window into her personal life, her marriage and family, and talked a little more about her career and charitable activities. But the documentary series will be somewhat different. It is filmed differently, it has a different story. It will be a completely new experience for the audience,” he explained.
As Newsmax notes, the series was part of Amazon's plans even at the stage of work on the first project: its release was provided for in the initial licensing agreement concluded as part of the work on the film. Earlier, a representative of Amazon MGM Studios spoke about this project before the premiere of the first film.
The exact premiere date has not yet been announced. Beckman also did not specify how many episodes the series will include and who, besides Melania Trump, will take part in it. The first lady herself has not yet commented on the project.
The first project was directed by Brett Ratner, who directed the Rush Hour trilogy with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Amazon paid $40 million for this film, and taking into account a large-scale advertising campaign costing $35 million, the total cost of the project is estimated at approximately $75 million. At the same time, the worldwide box office of the film was only $16.6 million.
The private premiere of “Melania,” held at the White House on January 24 with the participation of the presidential couple and celebrities, had previously drawn criticism. The reason was that it coincided with the shooting of federal law enforcement officers in Minnesota, in which nurse Alex Pretty was killed, and an abnormal snow storm, which killed more than 60 people across the country.
