The star of the Evil Dead film trilogy, Bruce Campbell, spoke on The Adam Carolla Show podcast about his doctors' prognosis in connection with his cancer diagnosis. According to the actor, he has five years to live.
In March of this year, the 68-year-old actor spoke about his battle with the disease in a statement published on social networks. Campbell did not name the type of cancer he had. He mentioned that this cancer is “treatable” but not completely curable.
“I have a five-year forecast. With the type of cancer I have – I don't want to go into detail – in the current situation we are talking about a five-year perspective,” Campbell admitted in a new interview.
When asked by the presenter whether this means that the actor has five years left to live, the artist answered “plus or minus.”
Campbell, who also worked for director Sam Raimi in Spider-Man and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, added that he wants to “live with cancer, not die from it.” He rejected the possibility of participating in groups of people with the same diagnosis and noted that he did not want to dive into the topic of the disease.
In March, he emphasized that he did not hide the situation because he wanted to immediately avoid speculation due to more rare appearances in public. He also shared his plan to “get as healthy as possible” to go on a fall promotional tour for Ernie and Emma.
Campbell wrote the script, directed, produced the film and played the leading role in it. In the film, he plays Ernie, a grieving widowed pear merchant who sets out to scatter the ashes of his late wife Emma.
“It’s very interesting when a film about a guy who scatters the ashes of his dead wife is made by a man who is dying himself. I'm moving on. I need to promote the film,” the actor emphasized on the podcast.
Campbell was born and raised in Michigan. While still in school, he became friends with future director Sam Raimi, with whom he created the first short film “Into the Woods” in order to attract investment for the film “The Evil Dead”. Campbell eventually played the lead role of student Ash Williams in a trilogy of films that became a cult classic in the zombie horror genre.
In addition to films, Campbell starred in the TV series Black Mark, Xena: Warrior Princess and Fargo. In the latter, he played the role of the 40th US President Ronald Reagan. The actor's voice is also used by animated characters – Mayor Shelburne in the cartoon Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and American spy car Rod “Horse” Redline in Cars 2.
