A native of Uzbekistan Khasan Begbaev, 39, is charged with 1 count of manslaughter in connection with the accident. According to police, on September 4 at 03:16 local time, a call was received about a traffic accident on Interstate 30, which runs from Texas to Arkansas. The investigation revealed that Maldonado's SUV and Begbaev's truck, which was towing a 53-foot (16-meter) trailer, collided at the Interstate 635 exit onto I-30.
The woman was taken to hospital, where she died from injuries received as a result of the accident. Begbaev was not injured and remained at the scene until paramedics arrived.
It is reported that Begbaev lives in Brooklyn (New York). The man has a residence permit in the United States, but Begbaev could be deprived of it and deported if found guilty, The College Voter clarifies.
Begbaev initially told investigators that he took the wrong exit while trying to get into Austin and was driving slowly in the left lane with his hazard lights on to change lanes, according to Fox News, which reviewed court documents. Begbaev claimed that Maldonado crashed into his trailer at high speed when he tried to turn right.

However, investigators examining the truck noticed a dashcam mounted on the windshield, the screen of which was covered with black duct tape. Having received permission to check the device, law enforcement officers gained access to the files.
According to police, the footage shows the truck stopping on the ramp at 2:32 a.m. and slowly reversing down the highway while other vehicles passed on the right. According to the affidavit, the video shows Maldonado's vehicle hitting the trailer at 2:34 a.m., causing the truck to stop briefly and then drive forward a short distance.
Shortly after the collision, the SUV caught fire, and police and firefighters had to extinguish the flames before removing the victim, Fox News clarifies. The laws of the states of Texas and New York specifically prohibit reversing on highways and adjacent roads, the TV channel emphasizes.
“In court documents, investigators noted that, as a licensed commercial driver, Begbaev knowingly took unnecessary risks by backing up on the ramp at night,” Fox News adds.
Begbaev voluntarily donated blood for analysis after the incident. The examination did not reveal any narcotic or other intoxicating substances. The driver was booked into the Mezquita Jail pending an investigation.
