Republican New York gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman, if he wins the election, will cancel the state's aid to illegal immigrants “on day one.” He stated this in a special interview with RTVI.
According to him, over the past three years, New York has spent $8 billion to help this category of citizens.
“They are not New Yorkers, they are not Americans. They come here and get free food, free transportation, free housing and a free cell phone. All this will stop on the first day I become governor. No more handouts to non-New Yorkers. I will put the interests of New Yorkers first. Life is hard for them under Katie Hochul. I want to make them happy,” said the RTVI interlocutor.
Blakeman is Nassau County's chief executive and won the New York State GOP primary in June. At the end of last year, US President Donald Trump supported his candidacy. In the November election, Blakeman will compete with the incumbent governor, Democrat Kathy Hochul. RTVI's interlocutor accuses the current state administration of wastefulness and ineffective management.
“New York State's problem is not a lack of revenue. The problem is the costs. We taxpayers need to ask: Why is New York State's budget twice that of all of Florida, even though Florida has 4 million more people? It is the result of fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement. At the helm are people who do not know how to manage a large organization. “I can,” Blakeman said.
To solve the problem of an inflated budget, Blakeman plans to bring in forensic auditors.
“If our budget is twice the size of the state of Florida, then there is a lot of extra fat in it.” There are a lot of cases of fraud, waste and abuse. Therefore, I will attract forensic auditors who will check each department. What is the money spent on? Are existing programs really helping people?” – said the Republican.
At the same time, Blakeman promised not to cut the benefits of New Yorkers.
“I won't discriminate against New Yorkers, but I don't want them to pay for the stay of non-New Yorkers who just come here and get free food, housing, transportation and a cell phone. This is wrong. They didn't do anything about it. What about the hardworking people who live here and pay taxes? They are the ones we should take care of,” he said. — New York State residents feel bad; they feel bad under Katie Hochul. I want to make them happy. They need a governor who puts them first. I will take care of you, and not of those who don’t even live here.”
