Tom Cruise appears gray and plump in the trailer for the film “Digger”

American actor Tom Cruise radically changed his image for the main role in the film “Digger” directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, known for the film “The Revenant”. Using prosthetic makeup, the Oscar winner transformed himself into the gray-haired and overweight oil tycoon Digger Rockwell, who first causes a man-made disaster and then undertakes to eliminate its consequences.

Other roles in the dark comedy with a budget of more than $100 million include John Goodman, who plays the elderly US President, as well as Riz Ahmed and Jesse Plemons. The US premiere is scheduled for October 2 this year.

Cruise, in the first Digger trailer, released July 13, swears a lot, washes his dying cat and attends a government meeting. The soundtrack to the video was the composition of the American rock band Talking Heads Burning Down the House.

“If we cannot influence the laws of nature, we can at least control public opinion,” says Cruise’s character, taking up a shovel to publicly correct mistakes.

On YouTube, the trailer collected about 3 million views within 24 hours. As users joke in the comments, the star of the Mission Impossible franchise decided to remind that he “actually knows how to act,” and compare the character with Les Grossman from the comedy Tropic Thunder, for the sake of which Cruise also used prosthetic makeup.

“Fun fact: in order to look his age, Tom had to wear heavy makeup,” one user joked about 64-year-old Cruise’s new role.
