American actress Margaret Qualley appeared at the London premiere of Ridley Scott's film The Dog Stars wearing unusual shoes without soles. The model, created by Chanel creative director Mathieu Blasi, actually consists only of a leather heel and lacing that wraps around the ankle – the shoe does not have the usual sole and toe, writes Vogue.
The world premiere of Ridley Scott's science fiction film Canis Constellation, in which Qualley played the role of doctor Sima, took place on August 20 in London.
For the event, 31-year-old Margaret Qualley, known for the films “Substance” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” chose a Chanel look, which was created by stylist Danielle Goldberg. Qualley wore a textured black floor-length dress with short sleeves and fringe trim. The look was complemented by jewelry from the French fashion house, including Coromandel High Jewelry Vol Suspendu earrings and the N°5 pendant ring.
However, it was the shoes that attracted all the attention – Qualley appeared practically barefoot in front of the photographers. As Vogue ironically notes, the actress was “lucky” to be at the ceremony without the usual soft carpet, so she had to walk in unusual shoes right on the bare gray floor.
The soleless model was first presented on April 28 in Biarritz in France as part of the Chanel cruise collection by Mathieu Blazy. According to WWD, one of the central themes of the collection was the image of a mermaid. Thus, in the teaser for the show, model Nur Khan appeared in the image of a sea creature, and in the final appearance she appeared in a turquoise dress with sequins and a hem resembling a fish tail.
In this sense, “heels without shoes” can be associated with Andersen’s classic fairy tale “The Little Mermaid”, in which every step of the heroine who has regained her legs causes her pain – the design of Chanel shoes also looks more like a test for the feet than comfortable “human” shoes.
Sandals, as Vogue notes, were not originally conceived as a mass commercial product. Now they cannot be found for sale on websites, and only VIP clients can get such a pair.
Qualley has been collaborating with the French fashion house as an ambassador for many years. She has walked the Chanel runway in 2021 and 2024, and also opted for a full Chanel look for her wedding to producer Jack Antonoff in 2023.
