Serial killer Rex Heuermann, known as the Gilgo Beach Maniac, sentenced to three life sentences, has been disciplined for drug possession and smuggling at the maximum security prison in Clinton County where he is being held, the New York Post (NYP) reports. This correctional facility is also known as “Little Siberia”.
It is unknown what was in the parcel. According to NYP, Heuermann was convicted of violations in mid-July, about a month after the verdict. A disciplinary hearing was scheduled for August 18. No other details are provided.
NYP calls the Clinton prison in upstate New York “a grim place isolated in the cold Adirondack Mountains near the Canadian border.” It was nicknamed “Little Siberia” due to the cold temperatures in the village of Dannemora where it is located. Clinton Prison was built in 1845, and at the end of the 19th century, a psychiatric center was organized there for prisoners who had gone crazy. The 1929 riot in “Little Siberia” led to the modernization of prisons in New York State.
At various times, Clinton Prison housed some of the most dangerous criminals in US history. Rapper Tupac Shakur also spent seven months in Little Siberia. He mentioned this institution in his song Picture me Rollin.
In 2015, two convicted murderers, Richard Matt and David Sweet, made a sensational escape – the first in the history of this prison. Based on the events, the mini-series “Escape at Dannemora” was later filmed.
As RTVI reported, in April of this year, Heuermann, who before his arrest was a successful architect and worked in Manhattan, admitted to killing eight women between 1993 and 2011, presumably sex workers. Most of the remains were found on Gilgo Beach on Long Island, hence the killer's nickname. Heuermann testified in court that he met sex workers, strangled them, and then disposed of the bodies in various locations on Long Island, including the Gilgo Beach, Manorville and Southampton areas.
He was arrested in 2023. Heuermann was identified thanks to payment documents for his credit cards and phone calls made from different devices. Later, DNA testing confirmed the investigators' guesses. More than 350 electronic devices related to the case were found in Heuermann's home.
Over the years of investigation, the Long Island murder case has managed to penetrate American pop culture – books have been written about it, documentaries have been made, and the feature film Lost Girls, released by Netflix in 2020, was made. In addition, in 2025-2026, the documentary true-crime series “The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets,” produced by rapper 50 Cent, was broadcast on the Peacock streaming service.
