American scientist Avi Loeb, who until 2020 headed the Department of Astronomy at Harvard University, has been appointed head of a new scientific advisory board on the study of the origins of UFOs. (unidentified flying objects), Associated Press reports. Previously, Loeb admitted that the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, which flew past Earth in December last year, could be alien spaceship.
Loeb independently formed a team of specialists. The council included more than a dozen scientists and activists involved in the study of UFOs and unidentified anomalous phenomena. Among them are former US Navy Rear Admiral Timothy Galloudet, who has previously stated the existence of objects allegedly controlled by “non-human intelligence,” as well as billionaire Ben Lamm, known for projects to revive extinct animal species.
After its first meeting last month, the group sent a request to the Pentagon for more than 50 videos, images and other materials related to the most famous NEA sightings. Council meetings will be held behind closed doors, but its participants promise to regularly inform the public about the progress of work and create a special website for publishing the results.
The Council reports to a new body, the NHA Management Council, which is under the control of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
What is Loeb known for?
Loeb headed the astronomy department at Harvard University for almost ten years. He has published hundreds of scientific papers on the study of black holes and galaxy formation processes. A turning point in his career was the publication of a hypothesis about the nature of the interstellar object Oumuamua in 2017. According to his version, the object could be a thin “light sail” – an element of an alien spacecraft.
In 2023, Loeb's team recovered hundreds of small spherical particles from the floor of the Pacific Ocean, found in the area of the suspected meteor impact in 2014. The researcher suggested that these particles may represent traces of an extraterrestrial technological civilization.
Last year, Loeb also admitted the possibility of artificial origin of the 3I/ATLAS object. In his opinion, the pulsation recorded at the comet could be associated with the jets or jets of the device, with the help of which it adjusted its path or performed other functions. The body was also observed to have non-gravitational acceleration, which Loeb attributed to the possible presence of an engine. The scientist also suggested that the object’s approach to Jupiter could be part of some mission to deliver probes to the gas giant to collect information in the interests of an extraterrestrial civilization.
At the beginning of the year, US President Donald Trump ordered his administration to declassify data on alien life and UFOs. Subsequently, the Pentagon published several packages of documents, including both archival FBI reports and more modern videos of glowing spherical objects in the sky.
The latest batch of materials, released last month, contained 53 documents, 10 images, six videos and three audio files, which were collected by various US government agencies – from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). RTVI.US talked about this in more detail.
