The plane of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was almost shot down by a drone while taking off from Moldova, when he went to the funeral of King Harald V of Norway, Prime Minister of the Northern European country Jonas Gahr Støre told NRK.
Zelensky arrived in Oslo from Moldova on Tuesday evening and visited the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday morning, an NRK source said.
“I asked how the night went and he said it wasn’t a very good night because he was on the phone getting news about where the missiles had hit,” Støre said. — His plane was almost shot down by a drone while taking off from Moldova. This is the reality he faced.”
Støre said it was a “very dramatic situation.”
Zelensky himself did not report the incident.
NRK adds that upon arriving in Oslo, Zelensky immediately went to a meeting with Norwegian authorities to discuss support for Ukraine's air defense system.
“We haven't reached our goal yet. The industry is working together to see if it is possible to provide air defense to Ukraine, as well as to find an industrial solution that allows them to build their own air defense systems. In Norwegian, they have holes in the roof,” Støre said, declining to go into detail.
King Harald V of Norway died on August 28 at the age of 89, making him Europe's oldest monarch. His son Haakon VIII took his father's throne.
