Jorge Schubert, who plays Pablo Monteagudo in the cult Argentine TV series “Rich and Famous,” told RTVI.US in detail why he unexpectedly left the profession at the peak of his popularity in the mid-2000s. According to the actor, the decision was not related to a career crisis, but to a difficult psychological state after the birth of his daughter. He also told how he experienced the scene of his hero’s death and what kind of person Natalia Oreiro remains outside the cameras.

For millions of viewers in Russia and other post-Soviet countries, Pablo Monteagudo was among the main romantic heroes of the late 1990s. His death in the series became one of the most emotional moments of the telenovela. Schubert himself admits that the death scene had a strong influence on him.

“Such scenes are prepared in advance. This is a certain state. You're going to die. So days like this become special because you enter into a state of very deep connection with yourself. Because something very deep is happening. And I lived this moment very deeply, in a sense, I really died that day,” said the actor.

“Rich and Famous” was the series that brought the first real fame to Natalia Oreiro – even before “Wild Angel”. Schubert refers to his colleague on the set as “an angel.”

“I've known her for a very long time. Not from childhood, of course, but from the time when she first arrived from Uruguay. A real angel. Because she is very kind, generous, sincere. A very warm person. And at the same time there is absolutely no star fever in her. She's beautiful. Natalia is truly beautiful,” he said in a special interview with RTVI.US.

At the peak of his career, the actor abandoned films and television to focus on family and internal search. The turning point was the birth of his daughter – according to him, love for the child turned into an almost paralyzing fear.

“I practically didn’t sleep for a year and a half. If I heard my daughter breathing, I was afraid that she would die. If I didn’t hear, I thought she was already dead,” Schubert said.

Today, the former actor writes books and hosts the podcast Los Enteradores, which centers on the idea that a person is both the protagonist and the observer of his own life. In fact, the former actor deliberately chose to live away from the entertainment industry – almost in the role of a philosopher-hermit.

“We live our lives as if we were playing a role, but at the same time we can observe ourselves from the outside,” explains Schubert.
