White House Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff said on his X (formerly Twitter) page that “significant progress” had been made as a result of the visit of American negotiators to Moscow and Kyiv, and hinted at the possibility of additional trilateral negotiations. According to ABC News, the United States expects the Russian-Ukrainian conflict to end before winter.
The channel’s source said that the visit to the capitals of the Russian Federation and Ukraine last weekend by Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, was “not for show,” and the American side was very serious. Let us note that Witkoff and Kushner visited Kyiv for the first time, and only the second time they came to Moscow together.
ABC News also claims that Witkoff and Kushner presented Russian President Vladimir Putin with “substantive plans for the next steps” toward a peace settlement during their visit to Moscow.
At the same time, the Financial Times (FT), citing its own sources, also writes that following the results of Sunday's discussions in Kyiv, a “general understanding” was reached that the fighting is unlikely to end before winter. Both publications, however, noted that the negotiators' trip did not lead to a breakthrough.

According to FT sources, the Americans brought updated versions of the peace plan to these meetings. Witkoff on social networks basically repeated what Kushner had voiced the day before at a press conference in Kyiv, including regarding the trilateral format of negotiations.
“President Trump is working hard to end the killing and achieve lasting and lasting peace,” Witkoff said.
He also posted additional photos from the meetings.
On Monday, the Kremlin did not rule out the resumption of negotiations in a trilateral format and a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump.
“We do not rule out the resumption of this trilateral format, but it is too early to talk about the location and exact dates,” said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.
In a conversation with reporters, he appreciated the US peacekeeping efforts, but said that he could not disclose the content of the proposals that Witkoff and Kushner came with.
