US President Donald Trump, during a visit to Ireland, called on Ukraine to stop attacks on diesel fuel-related infrastructure in Russia. The statement came on Sunday after Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner spoke via video link on Saturday at the YES 2026 forum in Kyiv – following negotiations in Moscow and Kyiv, he said that the United States continues to search for a “creative solution” to end the conflict.
Businessman Kushner, who along with Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff is negotiating Ukraine on behalf of the United States, again confirmed that a trilateral meeting of working groups is being prepared. He called a recent trip with Witkoff to Moscow and Kyiv “very successful,” noting that Washington now knows what steps need to be taken next.
“The most difficult issue, as before, remains territorial. And I think to a certain extent it obviously depends on what's happening on the battlefield, and the situation there is very dynamic. And this is where the positions of the parties still diverge,” Kushner explained.
The negotiator added that if Ukraine wanted to make concessions on the territorial issue, Washington would have already agreed on the remaining points of the agreement, but so far Kyiv is refusing. At the same time, according to him, in recent months the United States has managed to move forward in the negotiations in forming “the rest of the deal,” which does not directly concern the territories.
“Our task as mediators is to find a creative solution that does not violate Ukraine’s interests, helps it achieve its goal, and at the same time allows us to get Russia to end the conflict in a way that both sides can move forward within a framework that will prevent this from happening again,” Kushner said.
Trump appealed to Kyiv over diesel shortage
Trump linked his call to Kyiv to stop attacks on diesel infrastructure in Russia with the shortage of this fuel in the world. Kyiv has not yet commented on the US President’s appeal.
“Mr. Zelensky must do one thing – stop hitting diesel fuel in Russia. Other purposes are acceptable, but not diesel, because it thereby creates a shortage of diesel. The problem is not with the Middle East, but with Russia and Ukraine,” Trump said while attending a tournament at his golf club in Ireland and talking to reporters.
Before this, Trump commented on the war with Iran, noting that the costs of it “can be covered many times over” if “you keep the oil.” The journalist tried to ask him a question mentioning Zelensky, but he did not listen to the end and made a call to stop attacks on Russian diesel. Trump noted that the White House had “talked to Mr. Zelensky about this topic” and stressed that the attacks on diesel were “harming the world.”
Moscow has not yet commented on Trump’s statements, but on Sunday they reported that trilateral negotiations on Ukraine could take place in October.
“Yes, we do not exclude such a possibility. We are talking about the foreseeable future. That is, of course, presumably October. October cannot be ruled out,” TASS quotes the response of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov.
Turkey was mentioned as a potential platform for a meeting between representatives of Moscow and Kyiv by Putin’s assistant Yuri Ushakov in a commentary to Izvestia.
