New York Fashion Week (NYFW), where designers present collections for the spring-summer 2027 season, started on September 10. The official program opened with the debut show of Henry Zankov, a native of St. Petersburg, for Diane von Furstenberg, and it will end on September 15 with the Thom Browne show. The main schedule includes 70 designer shows and presentations, not counting events outside the official calendar and the evening program. Among the new rules of NYFW is a complete rejection of real fur at the request of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). About the first shows and the main participants of Fashion Week – in the RTVI material.

According to the official schedule, the spring-summer 2027 season includes 63 runway shows, seven presentations, 43 shows and extended presentations by appointment, six digital shows and eight New York Menswear Day shows. In total, almost 130 events are planned.

Screenings and presentations take place in a variety of locations throughout New York. In Manhattan, some designers have chosen The Plaza Hotel and the Rainbow Room, while events outside the inner city are planned at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens and the Storm King art center. Some brands chose even more unusual locations – in particular, the Manhattan Heliport.

For several New York fashion brands, this year's NYFW will be a milestone. Rachel Comey celebrates 25 years, Khaite celebrates 10 years. Carolina Herrera will celebrate the brand's 45th anniversary with a show led by Wes Gordon, and Coach will celebrate its 85th anniversary with a special gala event, Vogue notes.

On Wednesday, Ralph Lauren held its traditional non-calendar show. The show took place at the Jack Shainman Gallery in midtown Manhattan, where a marble hall with high ceilings was chosen for the event. The designer himself described the new collection as an expression of “inventiveness, character and originality” as well as “the freedom and pleasure of creating a truly personal style.” This idea was embodied in contrasting combinations: dresses made of brocade and light translucent fabrics were side by side with torn jeans, formal jackets and shirts with bright feather trim.

Until this week, the fashion house Diane von Furstenberg had not held a full-fledged show at NYFW for almost ten years. The new collection was presented by Henry Zankov, who had previously worked with the brand. After a temporary cessation of cooperation, he launched his own brand, Zankov, and returned to the company as a creative director in May of this year.

In his debut collection for Diane von Furstenberg, Zankov did not try to abandon the traditional codes of the fashion house, including the famous wrap dress, but offered a modern interpretation of them. The central image was “a woman in motion,” and the collection itself, according to the designer, was dedicated to “women who live on their own terms,” writes Marie Claire.

The Tommy Hilfiger show on Thursday was opened by American model Gigi Hadid, appearing in loose-fitting clothes – a mixture of business and sporty styles was noticeable. The day before, there were rumors that singer Taylor Swift and her husband Travis Kelsey might appear at the event: their dog Wendy previously starred with the football player in an advertising campaign for the brand. However, instead of her, a similar dog was brought to the podium, and the couple themselves did not appear at the show.

In the new collection, Michael Kors relied on graphic stripes and bright color accents, inspired by the show site – the sculpture garden of the Museum of Modern Art. The basis of the collection was a black and white palette with shades of red, green and coffee.

Starting this season, designers participating in the official NYFW program can no longer use real fur – a corresponding requirement was introduced by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Thus, three out of four world fashion capitals – London, New York and Milan – have already abandoned natural fur as part of their Weeks. It is expected that this measure will prevent natural fur from returning to fashion, and will also speed up the creation of alternative materials that will achieve a similar visual effect, but without harm to animals.
